Rivers Laune and Killarney Lakes system

Season

This is a large salmonid habitat which drains a catchment of some 320 square miles. It gets excellent runs of Salmon and Grilse, its Sea-Trout fishing while good is primarily confined to the river laune.

Access is good throughout and boats and guides are available.

The Laune is a good salmon river with fishing available through angling associations and Inland Fisheries Ireland. Fair to good run of fish dependent on water. All legal angling methods are allowed subject to on the rules of particular fisheries. The best time of year is April to September. Daily and weekly permits are available from tackle dealers in Killarney.

Fair to good run of sea trout depending on water levels. The best times are from early June to September.

Lough Leane, Muckross Lake and the Upper Lake, Killarney, Co. Kerry are part of the River Laune catchment. Fishing is free on these lakes. A reasonable number of salmon are taken mainly on the troll with some big spring salmon annually accounted for. All legal angling methods allowed. The season runs from January 17th to 30th of September and best time of year is April to September.

€25.00 a day Up to 31st July.  A 7 day permit €140.00. (Weeks Fishing.)

€35.00 a Day in August and September.   A 7 day permit €210.00. (Weeks Fishing.)

Availability of Permits in August and September will depend on demand; number of permits sold may be restricted.
