Dawros

The Dawros Fishery, sometimes called the Kylemore Fishery, runs alongside the Leenane/Letterfrack road, about 7 miles west of Leenane. The fishery is comprised of the Dawros River, Bunnaboghee Lough, Pollacapul Lough and Kylemore Lough.

Most of the fishing on the Dawros River is owned by Kylemore Abbey, who have permits available for visitors. Salmon and sea trout are caught on the river, with the best fishing in the vicinity of Tullywee Bridge. It fishes best following a spate, but also has a number of very good holding pools in lower water, including the Rock Pool, Bridge Pool, Joyce’s Pool and Lavelle’s Pool. Fly fishing is the only permitted method on the river.

The lakes upstream of the river are jointly owned by Kylemore House and Kylemore Abbey. Both have boats for hire.

Salmon

There is a run of spring salmon from April, continuing through May, and grilse run the river in June and July. The lakes fish well from July on, with the best fishing in August and September. Flyfishing is the only method permitted on the lakes.

Sea Trout

The fishery gets a run of sea trout, although they are not as plentiful as in former times, with fish averaging 0.5lbs Current legislation requires that all sea trout are released alive.
