    Lough Melvin

    Kinlough, Co. Leitrim, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal and Garrison, Co. Fermanagh (Northern Ireland)

    Unique brown trout fishing with many varieties of trout including ferox, sonaghan and gillaroo. There is a very good mayfly and duckfly fishing in particular. Most of the fishing on this border fishery is free but a game angling permit is required if you fish out from Garrison in Northern Ireland. A small part of the lake is run privately by the Rossinver Fishery (restriction on methods allowed) with day permits available. Boat hire and angling guides are available locally. The season runs from 15th of February until the end of September.
    Best periods: April – end of June and September.

    Rosses Lakes Fisheries

    Dungloe, Co. Donegal

    Good brown trout fishing on 130 small lakes up to 120 acres (49 Hectares) close to Dungloe. Local permit required. Information and boat hire available from the local fishing tackle shop. The season runs from 15th of February until 12th of October. All legitimate angling methods allowed with fly only restrictions on some lakes.

    Dunfanaghy Lakes

    Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal

    Good brown trout fishing on three loughs at New Lake, Port lake and Sessiagh Lake (From 75 acres to 230 acres; from 30 hectares to 93 hectares for New Lake). Information on permits and boat hire is available from Arnold’s Hotel in Dunfanaghy town. The season runs from 15th February to 12th October.
