    Virginia and Baileboro Angling Centres: The towns of Virginia and Baileboro, Co. Cavan are located to the northwest of the Boyne Valley Fishery and are surrounded by many high quality fishing venues

    Lough Ramor, is the biggest lake in the area at 800 hectares. It is quite shallow at its southern end but depths in excess of 15m have been recorded around the northern end of the lake. This is an excellent pike fishery. Large pike have re-established themselves in the lake and many 20lb fish are frequently recorded. Virginia, Coronagh, Knocknagartan, the Nine-eyed bridge and the back of the GAA football field are all notable venues at the southern end of the lake. Access at Knocknagartan is by way of a private road.

    BYE-LAW NO. 862 of 2009 provides for catch and release in respect of coarse fish in the harbour area of Lough Ramor. The Byelaw also prohibits the possession of any coarse fish or keep net in, or on the banks of, the harbour area and provides for the use of single barbless hooks only in angling for coarse fish.

    The Ramparts River flows through Virginia and holds good stocks of pike, good sized bream, roach and perch. Access to this fishery is via the handball alley at the northern end of the town. A number of stiles have been provided to facilitate angling in this sheltered fishery.

    Nadrageel or Lackan Lakes are located to the northwest of Virginia and about 2km north of Ballyjamesduff. These lakes which cover an area of approximately 100 hectares, with depths to 6m, are separated by a heavily reeded channel. This fishery holds good stocks of pike, roach, rudd, hybrids and perch.     Cornaslieve Lough is a small lake located 3km northwest of Virginia. It covers an area less than 2 hectares with depths to 3.5m. The western and eastern shorelines are tree lined and fishing is available from a small number of firm spots on the northern shoreline. This lake holds some notable pike and small numbers of bream, roach, hybrids. Access is across the fields and parking is difficult

    Dargans Lake is a small lake covering an area of 3 hectares with a maximum depth of 7m. This lake holds a fine stock of pike, medium sized bream, roach and hybrids. There are two fishing stands on the eastern shoreline and the northwestern corner of the lake has an open shoreline. Access is from the road at the southern end of the lake where a car park is provided.

    Galloncurra Lake, is located 5km southwest of Baileboro and covers an area of 7 hectares with a maximum depth of 3.5m. There is great pike fishing available on this water with numerous fish over 20lbs being taken by anglers using a variety of methods. Legered deadbaits and sink and draw methods have proved successful. There are a number of fishing stands at this venue and the best access is from the road at the western side of the lake, but parking is difficult.

    Mullagh Lough is located 2km west of the village of Mullagh and covers an area of 33 hectares with a maximum depth of 9.5m. This is a popular pike fishing venue and it also holds bream and roach. The best access is from the northern and western sides of the lake and there is adequate car parking available

    Baileboro Lough, also known as Town Lake, is located on the western side of the town of Baileboro and covers an area of 9 hectares. Due to the location of the lake, it is a popular fishery and it can provide some good sport. There are a number of fishing stands in place. The lake is relatively shallow and holds stocks of pike, perch, roach, bream and some tench. Access is good on both the northern and southern shorelines and car parking is available

    Galbolie Lough is based 3km northwest of Baileboro and covers an area of 4 hectares with a maximum depth of 6m. This lake holds good stocks of pike, bream, rudd and hybrids. The best access to the lake is from the road on the northeastern shoreline but parking can be difficult

    Castle Lake, is located 3km northwest of Baileboro and covers an area of approximately 20 hectares with depths in excess of 6m. This lake holds stocks pike, bream, roach, hybrids, perch and eels. There are a large number of fishing stands on this water and there is access for disabled anglers. The best access is from the road at the northern end of the lake where there is excellent parking.     Drumkeary Lake, is located 5km northwest of Baileboro and covers an area of 15 hectares with a maximum depth of 10m. This water holds stocks of pike, bream, roach, hybrids, perch and eels. There are some very large pike in this lake. Access is from the road at the northern and northwestern end of the lake and car parking is difficult

    Skeagh Lake, is situated 7km northwest of the town of Baileboro and it covers an area of approximately 50 hectares. Fishing is from a number of swims on the eastern shoreline. This fishery holds good stocks of pike, bream, roach, perch and access is from the road on the eastern side of the lake. Car parking is also available.     Kingscourt, Co. Cavan

    Kingscourt, Co. Cavan is surrounded by a number of small lakes that produce some excellent catches annually. The largest of the lakes are Whitewood and Ervey, which are complimented by smaller lakes including Muff and the Breakey lakes. Kingscourt is also strategically placed being close to the Ballyhoe Lakes, Derry Lough, Descart and Rahan’s.

    Ervey Lake, straddles the Meath-Cavan border and covers an area of 18 hectares with depths to 6m. The deepest part of the lake is located in the northeastern quadrant. The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board has provided a new car park and slipway on this water. This lake is an excellent pike fishery and contains good numbers of pike to specimen size.

    Breakey Lakes are located 7.5kms southwest of Kingscourt. The larger lake covers an area of 10 hectares with depths to 7m. This lake contains excellent stocks of pike, perch and bream. It is also quite easy to launch a boat on this lake. The smaller lake covers an area of about 3 hectares with depths to 5m.

    Whitewood Lake, covers an area of 35 hectares and has depths in excess of 10m on the eastern shoreline. Northern swims are shallow <2m and ideal casting distance is around 15m. Whitewood lake contains excellent stocks of pike, roach, bream, hybrids and perch. Access is best from the western shoreline, where a spacious car park and slipway are provided.
