Catch of the Week 25 March

salmon

This week the Catch of the Week goes to Timo O'Sullivan, Killarney who landed a 19.5 lb cock salmon on a red devil minnow from Lough Lein. “We were trolling the Fossa shore last Monday and the red and silver home-made minnow got him. It was the same minnow that caught the fish back in 2006. The secret for success is to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time,” he says.

O’Sullivan has worked tirelessly to improve facilities for anglers with disabilities. At Lough Lein, his angling club, hoists and casting platforms have been installed and clubmates assist with embarking and disembarking.

Catch of the Week 18 March

pike

This week the Catch of the Week goes to Paddy Grant who was fishing in Galway last week when he caught this lovely 20lb 4oz pike. After a quick photo the fish was carefully released. Though we have very little information on the capture it is good enough this week to win.

Catch of the Week 11 March

mullet

This week the Catch of the Week goes to Brian Lombard for this specimen thick-lipped mullet. Brian was fishing with his father at Rosscarbery in West Cork when he hooked his prize fish. This is a great fish to take so early in the season and hopefully is a sign of a good mulleting year ahead.

Catch of the Week 04 March

trout

This week the Catch of the Week goes to Richard Gibson form Virginia with his massive 7kg (15lbs 2oz) trout caught on Monday last in Hollywell Bay on Lough Sheelin. The fish, 32 " long, was caught on a buster lure. This trout sets a new record for the famous lake.

[Editor's note: This trout was brought to shore in a pike tube and weighed at the Shannon Fisheries Board base on Lough Sheelin before being carefully returned alive]
