Gaulmoylestown Pond

Gaulmoylestown Pond is almost exclusively a carp fishery located about 10 kms to the North of Mullingar and south east of Multifarnham village. This is a shallow pond not much greater than 4 feet in depth. It produces a moderate stock with quite large fish up to and in excess of 10lbs. Specimens are frequently verified by the Irish  Specimen Fish Committee.  Anglers often return good catches here.

Facilities and Access

There is roadside parking available which anglers may use to fish the swims. Because of the close proximity to the roadside these swims could be used by  disabled anglers. Access to the north side of the pond is permitted by the local landowner subject to anglers abiding by our country code. See below.

To get there

From Mullingar take the Castlepollard road for about 8 kms and turn left at Taughmon Church before Crookedwood cross. Continue on this road for about 2 kms and the lake visible at the cross roads.

Recently this venue has been producing quite a number double figured fish. Supposedly one angler had four doubles up to 12lbs in one session and Kildare legend Derek Brooks got in on the action with a nice mirror of 10lbs 7ozs.
My girlfriend and I were recently down on the 5th of May for a two night session. Upon arrival I soon realised that nearly every swim was taken!
The fishing was quite slow due to the constant pressure but I managed 7 fish up to 7lb 12ozs.Where as my girlfriend, Loraine, landed her first fish ever on the Sunday night, which turned out  to be a plump common of 7lb 8ozs. Then at 5 o'clock that morning her buzzer sounded and in came her second, and what a fish, a common of 10lb 9ozs!!!! Not to be out done by the opposite sex, I went back on Wednesday(9th) for a 6 hour session and landed 12 carp out of 14 runs, with fish up to 10lb 10ozs! My second largest from the venue!!!

Tight lines,
